HuttWatch — NZ ski field closure odds, called the night before

HUTTWATCH

Closure odds for NZ skifields for tomorrow.

Our call is locked once each evening from the evening forecast and the NZ Avalanche Advisory, before the mountains post anything — the exact lock time is stamped on every call — and it is never revised afterwards; that locked call is the only one we score against what actually happened. We then re-run the same model on fresh forecast data every 30 minutes and show that as the live number, so you always see the freshest read — live re-reads are not scored yet — every call, right or wrong, stays on the record. Live status comes from the mountains themselves. HuttWatch is independent and free; always check the field's own site before you drive.

These are predictions, not guarantees. HuttWatch estimates the chance of a closure from weather forecasts and past closure records. Mountain weather changes fast and operators make their own calls, so we can never be 100% accurate — a mountain we call likely to open can shut, and one we flag as risky can run all day. Live status shown here is quoted from each operator's own report and may be out of date by the time you read it. Decisions you make using this site — travelling, booking, buying passes — are entirely your own, and HuttWatch accepts no liability for any loss, cost, disappointment or injury arising from them. Always check the ski field's official report and travel conditions before you set out.
